MADISON, WI – “Today, we chose to spend our final session day of the year weakening public schools instead of strengthening them. After more than a decade of underfunding public schools, we passed bills that encourage school closures and district consolidation. We know communities didn’t ask for this, but the majority party moved ahead anyway.
“Republicans also rejected a motion to give new moms a full year of postpartum care, even though 29 of them have signed onto the bill. Ignoring the evidence that this bill would save lives and refusing to join 48 other states who offer postpartum care is an insult to families across Wisconsin.
“It is because of Republican leadership that families in Wisconsin are struggling to afford child care, keep up with everyday costs, and make sure their kids have the resources to succeed in school. We can and must do better, and my Democratic colleagues and I will continue fighting for Wisconsin families.
