As cuts to SNAP and skyrocketing grocery costs increase demand for assistance, Opportunity Wisconsin hosts chili cook-off to support local nonprofit helping western Wisconsin families
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – This Saturday, Eau Claire residents can support their neighbors in need and sample chili from local surprise guest chefs who are cooking their favorite recipes for a cause. Donations collected at the event will support The Community Table, a local nonprofit providing meals to families and individuals across Eau Claire.
“With food prices still through the roof and massive cuts to federal assistance programs like SNAP, many Wisconsin families are struggling to put food on the table. We’re proud to support The Community Table and invite everyone to join us this weekend to enjoy a warm bowl of chili, cast your votes for your favorite recipes, and make sure nobody is left behind this holiday season,”said Opportunity Wisconsin Program Director Meghan Roh.
Access to SNAP has been in the spotlight recently as the government shutdown stopped benefits for the nearly 700,000 families who depend on the program. While payments have resumed, massive cuts to SNAP as part of the Republican Tax Law earlier this year mean fewer families are able to access the program and put food on the table.
The Chili Cook-Off is open to the public. Donations at the door will go directly to The Community Table.
