MADISON, WI – Reporting prior to the Thanksgiving holiday from Fox 11 WLUK and 27 WKOW highlighted Senate Democrats’ continued efforts to fight back against Wisconsin Republicans’ attempts to restrict women’s right to access safe and effective medical treatment. Sen. Andre Jacque (R-De Pere) proposed a bill that would require women using medication for abortion or miscarriage to collect and return the resulting biological tissue to a medical facility. The bill also proposes holding doctors criminally liable if they do not enforce this requirement by providing “catch-kits” to patients.

Fox 11 WLUK: Wisconsin Republicans introduce bill regulating medical waste from at-home abortion pills

- “It would mandate “proper” disposal of medical waste, like blood and tissue. Doctors would be required to provide patients with a “catch kit” and medical waste bag with instructions. Patients would have to return the bag to their physician for disposal.”
- “I truly cannot emphasize enough how weird and evasive this bill is. Senator Jacque’s excuse for forcing such grotesque overreach is to protect water quality. Let’s be clear: there is absolutely no evidence to back that up,” State Sen. LaTonya Johnson, D-Milwaukee said.”
- “There is no basis in science for this kind of fear mongering and scare tactics,” State Sen. Kelda Roys, D-Madison, said.”
27 WKOW: Wisconsin Republicans propose bill regulating abortion pill waste
- “Sen. LaToya Johnson, D-Milwaukee, criticized the proposal, calling it “one of the most disturbing pieces of legislation” she has seen in the State Senate. She said there is no evidence abortion pills harm the environment and described the bill as a “grotesque overreach.”
