Hours after former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes formally launched his campaign for Governor of Wisconsin, the campaign secured an endorsement from UFCW (United Food & Commercial Workers) Local 1473, the largest private-sector union in the state of Wisconsin.

Representing more than 12,000 workers across the state, UFCW Local 1473’s endorsement reflects the early surge of support behind Mandela Barnes for Governor.

“I am deeply grateful for the support of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1473. As a state legislator and Lieutenant Governor, I’ve always fought to ensure every worker in Wisconsin has the protections and rights they need to earn a fair paycheck and provide for their families,” said Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes. “As Governor, no one will fight harder to restore the rights stripped away under Scott Walker—including repealing Act 10 and ensuring that every union in our state has the full right to organize and collectively bargain. I look forward to working alongside UFCW Local 1473 as we work to do things the ‘Wisconsin Way,’ bring down costs and keep communities safe.”

“For as long as I can remember, Mandela has always shown up for UFCW 1473 ready to fight for what’s right,” said UFCW Local 1473 President Jake Bailey. “We know that Mandela as Governor means having an ally that will fight hard for the necessary changes needed to strengthen organized labor.Regardless of background and beliefs, Mandela will do what’s right and will help make a better Wisconsin for all Wisconsinites.”
