Franklin, WI – Forward Latino, a national non-profit, non-partisan, service and advocacy organization headquartered in Franklin, Wisconsin and with affiliates and members in 29 states issued the following statement regarding the violent and deadly attack on members of the Jewish Community in Australia.

Statement by National President Darryl Morin:

“This morning, we awoke to the devastating news of a deadly antisemitic attack in Australia. As members of the Jewish community gathered to begin the celebration of the festival of lights that is Chanukah, they where met with a violent and deplorable act of hate. At the time of this statement, the attack has claimed the lives of eleven individuals, including a 12-year-old girl and a rabbi.

Once again, we are confronted with the painful reality that hate and antisemitism continue to be actively and passively promoted, while too few speak out with the urgency such moments demand. During this holiday season, a time of faith, reflection, and renewal, we must each look inward and ask ourselves, “What can I do to help eliminate hate?” At the core of our shared faith traditions is a simple and profound truth, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves.

We call upon all people of faith to join us in a moment of remembrance and prayer for those whose lives were lost, and then to recommit ourselves to standing against hate and bigotry in all their forms. Together, we must remain steadfast in defending the God- given dignity of every human being.

May their memory be a blessing.”
