Madison – On Tuesday, Representative Billings and Democrats in the Assembly and Senate introduced the Forward on Climate bill package to support efforts to combat the effects of climate change in Wisconsin. Rep. Billings introduced LRB-0780 and released the following statement:

“This week, my Democratic colleagues in the legislature and I reaffirmed our commitment to protecting Wisconsinites from the effects of climate change and seek forward-focused solutions to help our state become more resilient and protect our environment. Wisconsinites are already facing fluctuations in regular weather patterns, including heat waves, worsening floods, and changes in the annual snowfall. We must work to combat the threats of climate change now while also preparing our state for the future.”

“I was proud to introduce LRB-0780 with Senator Jeff Smith. This bill would create a climate change scholarship program for students who are enrolled in higher education programs that will prepare them for a career related to addressing or responding to climate change. This will directly benefit the students studying climate-related fields and will make higher education more accessible for the next generation of environmental scientists, conservationists, and researchers. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues who have already signed on to cosponsor this bill and I am hopeful that we can work together on a proactive approach to addressing the climate crisis in our state.”
