Madison, WI – Representative Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield) issued the following statement after the incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota that resulted in a fatal officer involved shooting by federal immigration enforcement. Rep. Donovan said:

“The continuous attacks on federal law enforcement professionals must come to an end. I am especially appalled by the irresponsible and reckless language used by public officials. They are fueling the flames of unrest, which is the height of irresponsibility. It is the duty of public officials to encourage sensible interactions with police, but many have demonized them by characterizing them as evil. This unconscionable language leads people to believe police are the enemy, resulting in the incessant obstruction of their operations.”

“It is the responsibility of the federal government to enforce federal immigration law. That is precisely what officers are doing across the country. Even if good citizens disagree, we have an obligation to obey the law and certainly not obstruct officers. Those brave men and women of law enforcement, at all levels of government, risk their lives and deserve our respect for it.”
