MILWAUKEE– During the Wisconsin State Assembly’s floor session today, Assembly Bill 840 passed 53-44, and was then immediately messaged to the Senate. State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde made the following statement about the bill and vote:

“Assembly Bill 840 was hastily drafted and raced through the Assembly, simply because data centers are a hot topic and Republicans want to score political points. But the PSC has already told us point blank: this bill will raise utility rates on Wisconsinites. Amidst an affordability crisis, we must be doing all we can to improve the cost-of-living and the quality of life of Wisconsinites.

This bill does neither of those things. Based on the bill we saw today, Assembly Republicans are wholly unserious about regulating data centers and solving Wisconsin’s affordability crisis. The vote is red.”

Representative Moore Omokunde represents the 17th Assembly District on the North and Northwest sides of Milwaukee.
