MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed a resolution recognizing January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The resolution, authored by Representative Lisa Subeck (D–Madison) and Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin (D–Whitefish Bay), passed unanimously.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established by the United Nations in 2005 to honor the memory of the more than six million Jews and millions of others murdered during the Holocaust. This year’s commemoration marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945.

“The recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of one of the darkest chapters in world history. We have a collective responsibility to remember the six million Jews and millions of others murdered in the name of hatred and fear, and to honor the countless brave individuals who survived,” said Rep. Subeck. “As we remember the atrocities of the Holocaust, let us also renew our commitment to fighting antisemitism and injustice everywhere. Knowing and remembering this ugly time in history is critical to ensuring ‘never again.’”

Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District, serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus, and is a member of the Leadership Council of the National Association of Jewish Legislators.
