Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman this evening praised Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin for her “unbounded energy, resilience, and deeply thoughtful leadership to this great university” after she was tapped to lead Columbia.
In a statement, Rothman ticked off a series of Mnookin’s accomplishments, including returning the university to the top five in research expenditures for the first time since 2014 with $1.93 billion in investment during fiscal year 2023-24.
Mnookin, who has served as the Madison chancellor since 2022, will remain in that role through spring commencement. Rothman said he will appoint an interim chancellor before a search process for a permanent successor begins.
“As Chancellor Mnookin begins her next chapter, we thank her for her contributions and wish her every success,” Rothman said. “We look forward to ensuring that UW–Madison continues to thrive and to carry forward the tradition of excellence it is known for worldwide.”
