WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) took to the Senate Floor to pay tribute to former Wisconsin resident Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed over the weekend by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents in Minneapolis. Senator Baldwin told the stories that Alex’s former classmates and friends shared about him to honor his parents’ wish to “get the truth out about our son.” Baldwin repeated her demands for stronger guardrails and accountability for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

This week, the U.S. Senate will consider a package of funding bills for Fiscal Year 2026, including funding for DHS, which oversees ICE and CBP. After the killing of Alex Pretti, Senator Baldwin announced over the weekend that she would not support any additional funding for DHS without increased transparency, accountability, and stronger guardrails to rein in ICE. On Tuesday, Senator Baldwin also called on Secretary Noem to resign immediately.
