MADISON, Wis – Today, Representative Anderson joined Legislative Democrats on introducing legislation that will legalize and regulate cannabis for adult use in Wisconsin (LRB-4219). The bill would establish a comprehensive, state-regulated cannabis framework focused on consumer safety, public health, and accountability, while ensuring Wisconsin benefits from the associated economic activity.
Under the proposal, cannabis would be legal for adult use for both recreational and medical purposes with clear guidelines for production, testing, and retail sales. The legislation also prioritizes responsible consumer regulation, generates new revenue and brings an existing market into a transparent and enforceable system.
“Nearly two-thirds of Wisconsinites support the full legalization of cannabis, and it’s time Wisconsin joins the growing number of states that have chosen to legalize and regulate it. In my hometown of Beloit, I see this reality every day as residents cross the border into South Beloit, Illinois, to visit legal dispensaries,” Representative Anderson said. “Those trips represent jobs, tax dollars, and economic activity leaving our state. Wisconsin shouldn’t keep falling behind. We should legalize cannabis for both medical and adult-use purposes in a responsible, well-regulated way.”
