MADISON – Today the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus launched a month filled with civic engagements for Black History Month at the State Capitol Rotunda for their annual kickoff. In conclusion the caucus announced that this year the State of Black Wisconsin featuring ranking Joint Finance Committee Member LaTonya Johnson, will be held in person at the end of the month as a part of Black Advocacy Day. There the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus will present their Black Policy Agenda for the State of Wisconsin following the caucus statewide tour last year.
“Last year, the Legislative Black Caucus committed to listening first by traveling across the state and hearing directly from Black Wisconsinites about their priorities. Bringing the State of Black Wisconsin together in person during Black Advocacy Day will allow us to reflect that input back to the public and be talk about where we are going next.”
“The lessons of Black History need to be responded with an agenda that protects the milestones of yesterday and fights for a brighter future. Our statewide tour made it clear that the issues affecting Black Wisconsinites affect everyone and our voices should be included at the forefront for policy making decisions regardless of which political party is in power.”
The State of Black Wisconsin will be held on Thursday February 26th at the Wisconsin State Capitol at 10:00 AM and is open to the public. Members of the public can register to attend by signing up for Black Advocacy Day on the Black Caucus website at legis.wisconsin.gov/wlbc/events.
