MADISON, Wis. — Today, Senator Brad Pfaff joined Representative Deb Andraca, 3rd Congressional District Democrats Chair William Garcia and hunter Wayde Lawler to address Tom Tiffany’s comments flip-flopping the Second Amendment and his lack of leadership after the ICE killing of Alex Pretti.
In addition to claiming he hadn’t seen the video of Pretti being murdered, Tiffany completely flip-flopped on his previous support to legalize nationwide open carry and statewide concealed carry, saying gun owners should “think about the ramifications” of legally carrying a firearm. Tiffany even doubled down, blaming Alex Pretti is to for his own death because he was legally carrying a concealed firearm.
Watch the press conference here and see what speakers had to say, in part, below:
Hunter and Vernon County Democratic Party Chair Wayde Lawler: “I never thought that my right to bear arms would be in jeopardy. I never thought the day would come when a Republican president, a Republican candidate for governor and Republican candidates for congress would try to take that right away from me in order to justify the murder of an American citizen. But that’s where we are–and it isn’t right.”
Senator Brad Pfaff: “The question I ask is this: is Tom Tiffany more loyal to the Trump administration or to the U.S. Constitution? […] just days after he defended ICE and the Trump administration, the President himself returned the favor by endorsing Tom Tiffany for governor. It is clear that politics is being played and Tom Tiffany would rather be a governor working for the White House and for President Donald Trump than he would be governor that follows [the Constitution] and works for the people of the state of Wisconsin”
Representative Deb Andraca: “How can somebody who’s running for governor, who wants to be the executive of our state, not have seen what happened? How can they possibly make an informed decision about what should come next for ICE especially if they happen to come to Wisconsin? To me this is a disqualifying lack of leadership and at the end of the day it shows that Tom Tiffany really just doesn’t have what it takes […] In my opinion, he’s just not built for a crisis situation.”
3rd Congressional District Democrats Chair William Garcia: “Tom Tiffany is so desperate to justify the murder of Alex Pretti that he flip-flopped on his own support of the Second Amendment, saying gun owners should ‘think about the ramifications’ of legally carrying a gun. This is the same Tom Tiffany who, as a state senator in Wisconsin, co-sponsored a bill to legalize concealed carry and in congress Tiffany co-sponsored Constitutional Carry, a bill that would legalize open carry nationwide.”
