Washington, D.C. – Tonight, President Trump will release “TrumpRx,” a pitiful smoke-and-mirrors gimmick designed to distract from his abysmal record on prescription drug prices. Despite vowing to bring down drug prices by 1,000 percent, since Donald Trump assumed office, drug companies have hiked prices for 948 brand-name drugs. Not only that, but in the GOP’s tax bill, Trump and congressional Republicans cut $1 trillion from working people’s health care, carved out big drug companies’ top-selling products from Medicare negotiations, and rewarded price-gouging big drug companies and their CEOs with huge tax breaks.

In response to Trump’s latest public stunt, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach issued a statement:

“TrumpRx is a con, not a cure. Donald Trump has spent years promising to lower drug prices while padding drugmakers’ profits and leaving hardworking families in the dust. TrumpRx is all smoke and mirrors, designed to grab headlines while big drug companies keep cashing in with so-called ’deals’ that most companies were already offering. Trump’s record is crystal clear: carve-outs for drug companies, delays for real savings, and policies that protect corporate profits over people.

“The only thing actually lowering drug prices right now is Medicare negotiations, which Democrats passed — and Trump is trying to gut them. In the big, ugly bill, drug companies got their biggest win in years, being able to undercut negotiations. Trump’s so-called ‘deals’ don’t lower prices at the pharmacy counter, won’t save most Americans a dime.”
