MADISON, Wis. – Today, Chairwoman Nicole Boyd from the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa delivered the 2026 State of the Tribes address in the Wisconsin State Assembly. After the conclusion of the address, Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement:

“It was a privilege to hear about the contributions, challenges, and triumphs of Wisconsin’s sovereign tribal nations in this year’s address to members of the legislature.

”Chairwoman Nicole Boyd delivered a powerful address on the unique challenges facing Wisconsin’s tribes, highlighting the need to protect our waterways, support community mental health, and invest in culturally-responsive education. Despite these challenges, she emphasized the resilience of the tribes and shared information about the substantial revenue generated through tribal activities and events, as well as the expansion of major initiatives like the Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center.

“Chairwoman Boyd also highlighted how important education is for our future. I could not agree more, especially as we fight for the resources, like increased aid and free school meals, that could really help our kids, schools, and families.

“Today serves as a reminder that there is still a lot of work to do to build strong government to government relationships with our tribal nations. We must continue listening to and partnering with our Native leaders as we work towards a future where everyone in our state can thrive.

“I look forward to building and achieving that future together. ”
