Milwaukee, WI — The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA) is proud to announce that a joint resolution recognizing Eid has been officially introduced in the Wisconsin Legislature.
Assembly Joint Resolution 134 (AJR 134) formally acknowledges the significance of Eid holidays to Muslim residents across Wisconsin and represents an important step toward recognizing the religious and cultural diversity that strengthens the state. It does not create a state mandated holiday in any way.
Muslim communities throughout Wisconsin observe Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as major religious holidays marked by prayer, charity, family gatherings, and community service. The introduction of this resolution reflects growing recognition of Muslim Wisconsinites and their contributions to the state’s civic, social, and economic fabric.
“This resolution represents an important moment of recognition and inclusion for Muslim communities across Wisconsin,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance. “Recognizing Eid affirms the religious diversity that makes our state stronger and helps ensure Muslim families and students feel seen and respected.”
“Recognizing Eid is about ensuring equity and inclusion for Muslim students, families, and workers across Wisconsin,” said Fatima Malik, Policy Lead for the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance. “This resolution acknowledges the lived experiences of Muslim communities and supports efforts to create environments where individuals do not have to choose between their faith and their education or professional responsibilities.”
WMCA will advocate for passage of the resolution during its upcoming Advocacy Day, February 11, at the Wisconsin State Capitol, where community members from across the state will meet with legislators to discuss civic engagement, religious inclusion, and issues impacting Wisconsin residents.
Community leaders emphasize that recognition of Eid promotes understanding, strengthens interfaith relationships, and supports students and families who balance school, work, and religious observances.
WMCA encourages community members, faith leaders, and allies to support the resolution and continue building stronger, more inclusive communities across Wisconsin.
