Despite Trump’s sweeping tariffs costing the average American household $1,000 more per year, Steil still supports them
Today, Bryan Steil voted *again* to shield Donald Trump from Congressional oversight on his sweeping, reckless tariffs that are raising costs for Wisconsinites.
The pivotal vote comes as a new report from the Tax Foundation found Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year. The cost is expected to rise in 2026 to $1,300 if existing tariffs that House Republicans voted on today stay in place.
This isn’t the first time Steil voted to rubber stamp Trump’s sweeping tariffs. In September of 2025, Steil voted to protect price-hiking tariffs, after doing the same thing in March of 2025. Today’s vote would have shielded oversight until the Summer of 2026.
REMINDER: Steil has repeatedly “defend[ed] Trump tariffs” even as Wisconsinfarmers are struggling and prices are rising.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“Bryan Steil votes once again to raise costs on hardworking families and undercut Wisconsin’s farmers and agricultural economy. Steil pledged to lower the cost of living and stand up for farmers on the campaign trail, but he’s done the exact opposite. Promises made, promises broken.”
