MADISON, Wis. – Sen. Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point) has joined his Senate Republican colleagues in introducing legislation that would return the state’s surplus to its rightful owners: the hard-working taxpayers of Wisconsin.
Senate Bill 1, which would provide married joint income tax filers with a one-time $1,000 income tax rebate, is scheduled to receive a public hearing Thursday at 1:15 p.m. in front of the Senate Agriculture and Revenue Committee. Sen. Testin chairs that committee and is a co-author of the legislation.
Senate Bill 1 would also result in a $500 income tax rebate for individual Wisconsin taxpayers.
“It’s no secret that Gov. Tony Evers’ irresponsible 400-year veto caused a large number of property tax bills to skyrocket this past December,” Sen. Testin said. “As a result, we know that many families across Wisconsin are struggling financially. We believe our proposal will go a long way toward reducing the tax burden on our residents. I look forward to chairing the hearing tomorrow and listening to the public’s thoughts on the legislation.”
The income tax rebate will be based on income tax bills for the 2024 tax year.
