MADISON, WI — Today, the Transgender Parent & Nonbinary Advocacy Caucus (TPANAC) strongly condemns the Wisconsin Legislature’s decision to pass a slate of anti-transgender bills that target youth, their families, friends, and the medical professionals who care for them.

These bills represent a coordinated political attack, not a good-faith effort to protect children or improve schools. Instead, they weaponize government against transgender people of all ages, undermine trusted relationships between families and doctors, and insert politics into classrooms, locker rooms, and medical decisions.

The legislation that passed in the Senate today, by only the Republican majority, includes:

  • SB-405/AB-400 — Creating a civil cause of action related to gender-affirming care for minors, opening the door to harassment, intimidation, and costly lawsuits against families and providers.
  • AB-100/SB117 — Forcing public schools and private choice schools to classify athletic teams strictly by sex assigned at birth, effectively barring many trans students from participation and erasing their identities.
  • AB-102/SB-116 — Imposing the same discriminatory restrictions on University of Wisconsin and technical college athletic programs.
  • AB-103/SB-120 — Allowing school boards to adopt policies that make it harder for students to use their correct name and pronouns at school, undermining student safety and well-being.
  • AB-104/SB-157 — Prohibiting gender-affirming medical care for people under 18, despite overwhelming consensus from major medical organizations that this care is evidence-based and often life-saving.

“These bills are not about protecting kids — they are about controlling kids,” the Transgender Parent and Nonbinary Advocacy Caucus stated. “Transgender youth already face higher rates of bullying, mental health challenges, and family rejection. This legislation will only deepen that harm. We call on Governor Evers to veto these bills and protect all Wisconsinites from the bullying by Republicans.  We stand with Wisconsin’s transgender and gender-diverse youth, their families, educators, and healthcare providers.”
