MADISON, WI — Today, Representative Sequanna Taylor announced the introduction of LRB-6340/1, a bill designed to protect older adults from rising property taxes while strengthening the state’s efforts to prevent homelessness among seniors.

“Across Wisconsin, seniors face rising property taxes and housing instability, and too many are at risk of losing their homes,” said Rep. Taylor. “This bill provides relief to older homeowners and ensures our statewide homelessness strategies address the needs of older adults who are most vulnerable.”

Key components of this legislation include:Senior Citizen Property Tax Credit: Homeowners age 65 and older will receive a refundable income tax credit equal to the amount by which their property taxes exceed the prior year’s amount. If the credit exceeds their tax liability, the difference will be paid directly to the homeowner.

Strengthened Homelessness Policy: The statewide policy established by the Interagency Council on Homelessness will now include specific strategies focused on preventing and ending homelessness among older adults.

The bill also includes a sum sufficient appropriation to fund the senior citizen tax credit.

“By addressing both rising housing costs and gaps in homelessness prevention, we can help seniors stay in their homes and maintain stability,” Rep. Taylor added.

Lawmakers who wish to co-sponsor the bill are encouraged to contact Rep. Taylor’s office by 5:00 PM on February 17, 2026.
