MADISON – Kelda Roys, candidate for governor, outlined her plans to lower healthcare costs and increase access, including KeldaCare, which would open up the state health plan so that Wisconsinites around the state can buy into the same health insurance that state employees have, during a press conference Thursday at Coopers Tavern in Madison.

Roys, a mother and small business owner, included detailed, specific plans to reduce prescription drug costs, guarantee access to reproductive healthcare and fertility treatment, tackle the mental health crisis, protect Wisconsinites from unfair insurance company practices, and build a stronger healthcare workforce for more affordable, accessible care.

Sen. Kelda Roys issued the following statement:

“In Wisconsin, we have a rich history of policy innovation, from unemployment insurance and workers compensation to protections for clean water. Today, I am announcing my healthcare plans to lower costs, increase access, and deliver transformative progress for Wisconsinites who are overpaying for healthcare.

“It has been almost two decades since Wisconsin last expanded access to affordable healthcare, due to Republicans politicians’ gerrymandering and indifference. My plans will enable every Wisconsinite to buy into the very same health insurance plan that I enjoy as a state senator, and give people the freedom to build a better life.

“KeldaCare will help small businesses start and grow, and compete for workers, and will help Wisconsin companies and municipalities of all sizes have a public option for health insurance coverage that is high quality, comprehensive, non-profit, and competitively priced. Covering more people and expanding the pool of insured people will lower costs for taxpayers and help keep rural clinics and hospitals open.

“For over 20 years, I’ve fought for and passed laws to expand affordable healthcare for Wisconsinites, and I am the only candidate in this race that’s actually delivered. From helping expand Badgercare to 80,000 Wisconsinites, to passing mental health parity, to protecting reproductive freedom, to expanding access to healthcare providers for rural and underserved Wisconsinites, I’ve made meaningful improvements in healthcare access and affordability whether Democrats or Republicans are in control. As governor, I’ll use my experience to deliver higher wages, lower costs, and more freedom for every Wisconsinite.”
