MADISON – This week, Jasmine Szweda of Baraboo High School participated in the 2026 Senate Scholar Program at the State Capitol. Jasmine was selected to represent the 14th Senate District for the program and was sponsored by State Senator Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi).

The Senate Scholar Program is a competitive and intensive week-long program. One high school junior or senior from each Wisconsin State Senate District is chosen to come to Madison for one week in either January, February, or March to learn about the legislative process up-close. During this week, Senate Scholars meet with individuals who work in the State Capitol in various capacities, staff a Senate session day, and, at the end of the week, hold a Senate Scholar committee hearing on a bill that the students have drafted. This program is an opportunity for Wisconsin students to get hands-on experience with state government by immersing themselves in legislative work for a week.

Senator Sarah Keyeski released the following statement in response:

“Jasmine represented the 14th Senate District beautifully during her time as a Senate Scholar! While the Senate was in Session on Wednesday, February 11th, she helped staff us on the floor, and she listened in on part of my committee hearing the next day. I so appreciated getting a chance to meet with Jasmine to learn more about her and what she has learned as a Senate Scholar. I was so proud to sponsor Jasmine for this week – she certainly has a bright future ahead of her!”
