Today, State Representative Mike Bare (D-Verona) and Senator Kelda Roys (D-Madison) introduced “The No Kings Act,” in an effort to ensure voters can vote for candidates eligible to hold federal office, and that Wisconsin’s electoral votes may not be cast for someone ineligible to be president. Representative Bare stated:

“The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution makes it abundantly clear that Donald Trump is not eligible to be elected President again. This bill would ensure that he cannot appear on a ballot again, and that Wisconsin’s electoral votes cannot be cast for him.”

“The American Revolution was launched in response to a despotic king, and our founders established a government premised on a balance of power between branches of government, and a system of checks between the branches to prevent the concentration of power in one person. We are not a country of kings.”

“Yesterday, I introduced this as an amendment on the floor of the State Assembly, and my Republican colleagues all voted to set it aside, which signifies they are not willing to prevent Donald Trump from serving a third term. That makes me fear for the future of our democracy.”
