(Brookfield, WI) – Pro-Life Wisconsin Juneau County, an affiliate of Pro-Life Wisconsin (PLW), is standing in opposition to Juneau County Resolution: No. 26-12. This resolution would approve the purchase of a public health vending machine for Necedah which would contain free access to condoms. PLW Juneau County has several concerns with the machine, which would allow minor children capable of pushing buttons to access condoms packaged with Health First’s advertising. Among these concerns are:
- There are no age restrictions or adult supervision for the disbursement of the condoms.
- There is no accompanying information on the dangers of promiscuous sexual behavior such as STD’s and STI’s.
- The idea that condoms make sex safe is a myth. Contraception is not designed for disease protection. It is designed to prevent the fertilization of the egg. Contraception literally means: “against conception”. To sell contraception as disease prevention is harmful to our youth.
- Any legal ramifications of providing condoms to minors.
- The legal ramifications of enabling statutory rape (i.e., sex between two minors, sex between a minor and an adult, etc.).
PLW State Director Dan Miller offered the following comments regarding his organization’s opposition to Juneau County Resolution: No. 26-12:
There are zero good reasons to make condoms available to minors, let alone free condoms. It sends the wrong message to our youth. The County Government’s job is to protect its people, not to encourage illegal and illicit behavior. The proposed site for this vending machine is right next to a walking path which kids use to get to a nearby school. This flies in the face of prudence and common sense.
Pro-Life Wisconsin and Pro-Life Wisconsin Juneau County are encouraging their supporters in Juneau County to call their county board supervisors and urge them to “Vote No” on the Free Condom Vending Machine.
