WAUSAU, WI – Tom Tiffany, candidate for Governor, today announced a statewide digital and streaming ad focused on lowering utility costs as Wisconsin families face skyrocketing bills.
Since 2019, Governor Evers’ appointees for the Public Service Commission (PSC) have approved $2.2 billion in utility rate increases, more than seven times what was approved under Governor Scott Walker during a similar timeframe. Wisconsin now faces the second-highest electricity rates in the Midwest, exceeding the national average.
“Since 2019, Governor Evers’ PSC commissioners have approved more than $2 billion in utility rate hikes, and Wisconsin families are footing the bill for their failures,” said Congressman Tom Tiffany. “Wisconsin needs a governor who fights for ratepayers and holds the PSC accountable instead of rubber-stamping higher bills. As governor, I will stop closing reliable power plants, protect our farmland, and expand nuclear energy to lower costs.”
Recent reports show some Wisconsin families are paying nearly 40% more than last year, including in some cases over $300 more. Yet despite soaring bills, Wisconsin is not producing more net electricity generation, leaving families paying more for less. As governor, Tom Tiffany will hold the PSC accountable to ratepayers and work to end the revolving door that has allowed commissioners to treat the agency as a stepping stone to their next utility job.
Tiffany’s statewide ad, “Stop the Sticker Shock,” calls for protecting reliable baseload power, ending reckless power plant shutdowns, and defending Wisconsin’s farmland from the Green New Scam. You can watch the ad here.
