MADISON, Wis. – Today, Rep. Deb Andraca (D – Whitefish Bay) attended Governor Tony Evers’ final State of the State Address, where the Governor highlighted his administration’s accomplishments and outlined the work we still have ahead of us this year.
Rep. Andraca released the following statement regarding the address:
“I applaud Governor Tony Evers for the work his administration has done, and will continue to do, to make communities all across our state safer, smarter, and healthier. While we are nearing the Assembly Republican majority’s self-imposed deadline for the end of our legislative session, our work is far from done. Instead of leaving, we should be leading on the issues most important to our constituents.
“We have yet to expand health coverage for moms and babies or require health insurance to pay for follow-up breast cancer screenings. No compromise has been reached to reauthorize Wisconsin’s widely popular, bipartisan Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program before its funding is set to expire. Proposals to invest additional general school aid to fund our local public schools and help offset property tax increases are being ignored by Republican leaders.
“With more than nine months left in the calendar year, and much more work to be done, the State Assembly is likely to finish most legislative business for the year by the end of this week. This is simply unacceptable, and I will keep fighting on behalf of my constituents to ensure Wisconsin is a better place to grow up, learn, and live for our current and future generations.”
