“Giving working families a little more breathing room in their household budgets is something we’ve worked on together over the last seven years. I’m hopeful we can continue building upon those efforts this session…” Gov. Evers said.
MADISON, Wis. – Family Friendly Wisconsin released the following statement today following Gov. Tony Evers’ eighth and final State of the State Address in which he reflected on his commitment to making life more affordable for working families, and urged the legislature to finish the session strong.
Brita Olsen, Family Friendly Wisconsin State Director:
“Gov. Evers is no stranger to affordability – he has committed his tenure as governor to working toward lowering costs so it is easier for families to work and care for their families.
“Gov. Evers understands that Wisconsin has had a child care crisis for too long, and we are grateful for his commitment to finding practical and effective solutions to the crisis. Unfortunately, there is still much more to be done to ensure that families can afford quality care and that providers are paid a deserving wage.
“The governor also highlighted another crisis as a result of the Trump administration’s budget bill: health care. Because Republicans refused to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, more than 270,000 Wisconsinites will lose their health care – all to give tax breaks to billionaires.
“Just as the governor reiterated throughout his speech, Family Friendly Wisconsin urges legislators on both sides of the aisle to continue to work to make Wisconsin a state where families can thrive, and that includes meaningful investments in child care, health care and paid family leave.”
