[Wales, WI] – Wisconsin Waterfowl Association Executive Director Brad Heidel issued the following statement after the Wisconsin State Senate failed to pass legislation which would have reauthorized and continued the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program:

β€œIt’s extremely unfortunate that members of the Wisconsin State Senate could not agree on a path to continue the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. This program has provided access and opportunities for hunters, anglers and trappers in Wisconsin for more than thirty years, and the sportsmen and women in the Badger State are united in their desire see it continue. Despite having an opportunity to continue the program, legislators let political infighting trump the needs of conservation and our sportsmen.

β€œThe Wisconsin Waterfowl Association is grateful for the work of the legislators – especially Senator Patrick Testin and Representative Tony Kurtz – who worked tirelessly to find a path to save this program. Rest assured, the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association and our partners will continue our work to ensure that the needs of conservation for our hunters, anglers and trappers will be met.”

The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association is a statewide, nonprofit conservation organization which represents the 61,000 waterfowl hunters in Wisconsin. Founded by hunters, WWA works to further the restoration and conservation of Wisconsin’s waterfowl and wetland resources. Since 1984, WWA has been working to create better habitat, educate and advocate for waterfowl hunters across Wisconsin.
