Ducks Unlimited Wisconsin State Policy Chairman Todd Schubring issued the following statement after the Wisconsin State Senate failed to pass legislation that would have reauthorized and continued the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program:

“At a time when states around the country are doubling down on conservation investments through new or existing programs, Wisconsin has become the first state in recent history to allow a longstanding, wildly successful, and popular conservation program to expire.

“The failure of the Senate to pass Senate Bills 316 and 685, which would have reauthorized and continued the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, simply does not reflect the values of Wisconsinites.

“While disappointed in today’s outcome, Ducks Unlimited is extremely grateful to Senator Patrick Testin and Representative Tony Kurtz, all the bill supporters, committee chairs, and legislative leadership for the tremendous efforts they invested to try and save this critical program.

“Ducks Unlimited looks forward to working with the legislature in the years ahead to create a more durable conservation program built for the needs of Wisconsin’s wildlife and our state’s outdoorsmen and women.”
