MADISON, Wis. — Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly voted on Assembly Bills 131 and 130 which This bill appropriates funding from the segregated PFAS fund to the Department of Natural Resources for general operations, new PFAS grant programs, the well compensation grant program, and other required activities relating to PFAS. The bill also appropriates funding from the general fund for general program operations relating to conservation, the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway, and the management and protection of the state’s water and fishery resources.

Following the 93-0 vote in the Assembly, Representative DeSanto (D-40) released the following statement:

“Clean water is a basic right and tonight we made it one step closer to ensuring safe, clean drinking water for all Wisconsinites. I was so thrilled that Governor Evers and the Department of Natural Resources successfully secured an agreement to finally get the money set aside for PFAS remediation out the door and to the communities that need it. This is crucial support for our communities who are tackling contamination and is a win for Wisconsinites.

“It is so important that this bill contains both PFAS relief as well as funding for private well owners to remediate contaminated water sources. This will help to comprehensively address PFAS-related issues across the state.

“Communities needed these funds years ago when the money was set aside so it is critical that this also passes the State Senate and is sent to Governor Evers’ desk for his signature.”
