MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, the right-wing, anti-abortion group Wisconsin Family Council sang Maria Lazar’s praises in their endorsement of her as Wisconsin’s next Supreme Court justice.

“Wisconsin Family Council’s ringing endorsement of Maria Lazar proves what Lazar has already made clear to Wisconsinites: she would be a rubber stamp in the Wisconsin Supreme Court for an extreme agenda that rips rights and freedoms away from Wisconsinites,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Since joining this race, Maria Lazar has tried to downplay her extreme views on abortion, but it is no surprise that she is cozy with the same no-exceptions, anti-abortion organizations that resoundingly endorse her.”

Lazar has previously received the endorsement of Pro-Life Wisconsin, another far-right group that opposes abortion access in every circumstance, including when a mother’s life is in danger. They even oppose access to fertility treatment and birth control and they only endorse candidates who back 100% of their agenda.

As a candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court Lazar has praised overturning Roe v. Wade, calling the decision “very wise” and “a good move forward.” She also signaled she would support additional restrictions on abortion in Wisconsin, including a new six-week ban without exceptions for the life or health of a mother.
