Milwaukee, WI — The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA) strongly condemns the recent U.S. military strikes on Iran and calls for immediate de-escalation, renewed diplomatic engagement, and full congressional oversight consistent with constitutional principles.
These strikes represent a dangerous escalation that risks widening conflict in an already volatile region and threatens the lives of innocent civilians. Military action carries profound human consequences, and history has shown that escalation often leads to long-term instability, displacement, and suffering for civilian populations.
WMCA is deeply concerned by actions taken without clear congressional authorization. The U.S. Constitution grants Congress the authority to declare war to ensure democratic accountability and protect the will of the American people. Decisions of this magnitude must involve transparency, deliberation, and adherence to the rule of law.
“We are deeply troubled by the escalation of military force and the devastating human consequences it brings,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance. “We urge our elected leaders to prioritize diplomacy, de-escalation, and peaceful solutions. Our communities believe in the protection of human life, adherence to constitutional processes, and the pursuit of peace.”
The escalation abroad also has direct impacts at home. Muslim, immigrant, and refugee communities across Wisconsin are experiencing fear, uncertainty, and concern for their loved ones and for the safety and well-being of their communities. WMCA emphasizes the importance of protecting civil liberties and ensuring that communities are not subjected to discrimination, profiling, or harassment during times of geopolitical tension.
As a civic engagement organization committed to justice, democratic participation, and human dignity, WMCA calls on elected officials to exercise their constitutional responsibilities, pursue diplomatic solutions, and work to prevent further escalation. The organization stands in solidarity with all civilians impacted by violence and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for policies that uphold peace, accountability, and respect for human rights.
