MADISON – Today Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers introduced new health legislation to create a BadgerCare Public option amidst rising healthcare costs. LRB-6040 requires the Department of Health Services to request federal approval to allow any Wisconsin citizen, regardless of income, to purchase health coverage through BadgerCare. It also directs the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to establish and operate a state-based health insurance exchange. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement:

Everyone deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare–and right now, that’s not a reality for far too many Wisconsinites. Many of us, and our neighbors, are being forced to choose between paying for food, rent, childcare, and healthcare. Establishing a BadgerCare Public Option can create a new, more affordable pathway to quality health insurance–this is what Wisconsinites deserve. Let’s get it done so Wisconsinites can get the care they deserve to move forward, together.

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
