WAUKESHA, WI — Today, Judge Maria Lazar, candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, issued the following statement regarding Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler’s announcement that she will not seek re-election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2027:
“Justice Annette Ziegler has been an exemplary jurist and a pillar of our legal community for nearly three decades. From her distinguished service on the Washington County Circuit Court to her leadership as Chief Justice of our state’s highest court, she has consistently demonstrated what it means to be a thoughtful constitutionalist.
Throughout her tenure, Justice Ziegler has remained steadfast in her commitment to the rule of law, always putting the written law ahead of personal or political agendas. Her career has been defined by judicial restraint and a profound respect for the constitutional boundaries that protect our democracy.
The people of Wisconsin have been truly fortunate to have a jurist of her caliber and integrity serving on the bench. I am deeply grateful for her many years of dedicated service to our state, and I wish her nothing but the very best in her future endeavors.”
