Housing advocate, caregiver, and former Madison Alder Juliana Bennett cements herself as the leading progressive in the race for Wisconsin State Assembly District 76.
MADISON, WIS. — Former Madison Alder Juliana Bennett announced today that her campaign for Wisconsin State Assembly District 76 has been endorsed by Our Wisconsin Revolution, the Wisconsin Chapter of Our Revolution, the grassroots organization started by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.
The endorsement comes a week after being endorsed by Madison Area DSA and former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner, cementing Bennett as the progressive choice in the race for Assembly District 76.
“I’m grateful to have Our Wisconsin Revolution’s backing in this race. I will fight the oligarchy until the working class wins,” Bennett said.
“The ultra wealthy have bought our elected officials, causing our state to erode education funding, which has raised our property taxes. Meanwhile, they are getting tax breaks. I’m going to fight to fix that.”
Statement from Our Wisconsin Revolution:
“Our Wisconsin Revolution is honored to announce our endorsement of Juliana Bennett for Wisconsin State Assembly, District 76. Juliana is a champion of progressive policy and the type of leader Wisconsin needs to help drive us forward.”
“Juliana Bennett is a housing advocate, caregiver, former Madison alder, and queer Black Democratic Socialist fighting for an affordable Wisconsin where working families can thrive. She’s faced medical debt, eviction, and the pressure of living paycheck to paycheck. These hardships are not accidents, but the result of a rigged system and complacent leaders. Juliana has a plan to change things: to raise the minimum wage, build affordable homes for everyone, and fully fund our public schools.”
Bennett is the product of a working-class family. A graduate of MMSD and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Bennett has deep roots in the community she seeks to represent. She currently serves as a caregiver to an aging parent and has built a reputation as a fierce advocate for working-class families.
During her time on the Madison Common Council, Bennett helped legalize duplexes citywide, supported the approval of more than 1,000 units of affordable housing, secured millions in investments for homeless services and undocumented communities, stood in solidarity with Gaza and Madison’s communities of color, and helped deliver fair municipal maps. Bennett is the only candidate with experience at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
