Reporting from Up North News and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reveals that Congressman Tom Tiffany has voted absentee a dozen times in the past decade, even as he backs ending mail-in voting in Wisconsin.

Tiffany’s attacks on mail-in voting, which over a million Wisconsin voters rely on to cast their ballot, comes as Donald Trump and his allies demand voter data and threaten once again to interfere with states’ ability to administer elections freely and safely. Tiffany also voted against certifying the 2020 election, signed on to a brief to overturn the outcome of that year’s election, and has pushed dangerous and debunked conspiracy theories about the election being stolen.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Governor candidate Tom Tiffany sends mixed signals on mail-in voting

  • In a March 12 interview with a conservative news outlet based in northwest Wisconsin, Tiffany said he doesn’t believe “we should be doing mail-in voting” when asked for his thoughts on the practice.
  • A spokeswoman for Tiffany told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the congressman was responding to a practice where all registered voters are automatically sent an absentee ballot, even though the distinction was not mentioned in the question or in Tiffany’s answer and the practice does not exist in Wisconsin.
  • Tiffany voted against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, citing absentee voting practices during that election. He said because of them, “Wisconsin voters will never truly know who actually won our state.”
