Democrats claim to be in favor of helping Wisconsinites, but the actions of their party leadership tell a different story. Recent vetoes make it clear that when given the chance to lower costs, expand access, and strengthen security, they choose instead to protect government power and maintain the status quo.

Senate Bill 214 — Registration of out-of-state health care providers for telehealth services By preventing SB 214 from becoming state law, Wisconsin Democrats make it harder for rural Wisconsinites to access affordable medical care. When care isn’t accessible, it isn’t affordable. Delays drive up costs through emergency room visits, long travel times, lost wages, and missed preventative care. This bill does not lower the bar for practicing in Wisconsin. It simply acknowledges that qualified professionals across state lines can help fill gaps in care, as long as they meet Wisconsin’s expectations and are held to our standards. By limiting telehealth options, Democrats put both the health and financial stability of rural and all Wisconsinites at risk.

Assembly Bill 415 — Use restrictions on state and local government electronic devices The veto of AB 415 shows a refusal to establish enforceable cybersecurity standards, leaving Wisconsin exposed not only to foreign threats but to significant, avoidable financial risk. The current approach relies on a fragmented system that increases the likelihood of costly breaches and taxpayer liability. Russia, Cuba, China, Iran, and North Korea should have no pathway into state or local government systems. Failing to act does not just weaken security, it invites expenses Wisconsin taxpayers will ultimately bear.

Senate Bill 289 — Requirements for proposed administrative rules that impose costs Finally, in a move that reinforces expanded government power for future Governors, Evers ensured that broad executive authority over administrative rules remains in place by vetoing SB 289. When reasonable efforts to reduce financial burdens are dismissed as “onerous,” it reflects a governing philosophy that resists oversight and accountability. The result is predictable: less transparency, more concentrated power, and higher costs for Wisconsin families already feeling the strain.

Wisconsin Democrats can claim to stand with working families, but these decisions put Wisconsin last. Republicans will continue working to deliver practical, responsible solutions that lower costs, protect taxpayers, and expand opportunities for all Wisconsinites.
