Dept. of Transportation: Merrimac Ferry opens for the 2026 season

The COLSAC III ferry across the Wisconsin River has opened for the 2026 season.

Commonly known as the Merrimac ferry, the COLSAC III operates free of charge 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to carry WIS 113 traffic between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County.

Last year the ferry made 39,734 crossings carrying a total of 208,823 motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. A single crossing takes about seven minutes.

The COLSAC III is listed on the state and national register of historic places.
