Madison – The Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association (WCPA) extends its heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation to State Senator Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) for his many years of public service to the people of Wisconsin, particularly as he prepares to retire from the Wisconsin State Senate at the end of his current term.

“Senator Van Wanggard has always put public safety first. Wisconsin communities owe him a debt of gratitude for always supporting and advancing policies that improved the lives of Wisconsinites. His deep understanding of the realities faced by law enforcement, combined with his principled leadership in the Senate, has left a lasting positive impact. On behalf of our membership, we thank him for his integrity, dedication, and friendship. While we are saddened by his retirement, we celebrate his remarkable legacy and wish him, his family, and his health all the best in the years ahead,” noted Chief Danny Thompson, WCPA President.

After retiring from a nearly 30-year career in law enforcement, where he served the citizens of Racine, Van chose to continue his service by running for the Racine County Board. After serving eight years on the County Board, he ran for the State Senate. He was able to transition from public safety to public policy, all while remembering his formative years at the Racine Police Department.

The Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association represents police executives dedicated to promoting professional standards, training, and effective policing throughout the state. We look forward to continuing to work with lawmakers who share Senator Wanggaard’s commitment to strong, supported law enforcement.
