Milwaukee, WI — State Representative Russell A. Goodwin Sr. released the following statement regarding recent violence in Milwaukee, calling for immediate and coordinated action to address public safety across the city:

“The recent violence in Milwaukee is deeply concerning and requires immediate attention from leaders at every level of government. Milwaukee is the economic engine of Wisconsin, and when violence affects our neighborhoods, the impact is felt across the entire state.

I want to extend my condolences and support to the families affected by these horrific acts of violence. Such events are unacceptable, and I believe immediate state action is necessary.

Every resident should feel safe whether they live in Harambee, Layton Park, Granville, Sherman Park, Bay View, or any neighborhood in our city. We must do everything possible to protect families and ensure every community receives the attention and resources it deserves.

I believe my colleagues in the Legislature must be prepared to return to the Capitol with the intention of supporting our communities. District 12 faces serious issues such as the prevalence of gun violence, high rates of food deserts, and rising property taxes. The residents we serve expect action, and we are obligated to work together to strengthen public safety, re-establish affordability, and restore confidence in our neighborhoods.

Our responsibility as leaders is to make sure every neighborhood in Milwaukee is safe, every family is protected, and every community has the opportunity to thrive.”
