Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee: Celebrates Wisconsin Supreme Court flip that expands the progressive majority

WASHINGTON — Judge Chris Taylor flipped a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, expanding the liberal majority to 5-2 for the first time in recent history. This win gives the liberal majority control of the court until at least 2030 and will shape key issues like redistricting, which is why the DLCC announced Chris Taylor as a Target Race and maxed out with a five-figure investment.

The DLCC and its allies and partners have made a concerted effort to flip and expand this court majority, dating back to Janet Protasiewicz’s win in 2023. Breaking the conservative court majority and defending the liberal majority in 2025 broke over a decade of Republican gerrymandering that locked state legislative Democrats out of power. 

Chris Taylor’s major statewide victory is yet another display of momentum heading into November as the DLCC prepares to flip the Wisconsin legislature as part of our expansive midterm strategy.

For over a decade, Republicans weaponized a comfortable court majority to enable extreme GOP gerrymandering, but through concerted efforts over multiple elections, we have shifted the balance of power on this court to win the largest liberal majority in modern history. Our next step is taking this same strategy to the state legislature, where we are poised to flip both chambers blue this November. The DLCC is moving full steam ahead, and 2026 will be a historic year for shaping the future of Wisconsin.”
