The 3rd CD Democrats of Wisconsin congratulate Judge Chris Taylor on her victory on Tuesday night. Her victory is proof that Wisconsinites want leadership that is fair, compassionate and interested in upholding the rights and freedoms of every person in the state. We are especially thrilled that the Wisconsin Supreme Court has a progressive majority through the remainder of President Trump’s term in office, providing an important firewall against the President’s legislative and judicial overreach.
The 3rd CD Democrats are particularly proud of Judge Taylor’s success in the 3rd CD. Of the 18 counties that make up the 3rd CD, 14 of them were won by Judge Taylor, including very rural counties like Crawford, Trempealeau and Jackson Counties. In the four counties that Maria Lazar won, the margins were shockingly close. It is clear that Judge Taylor built a campaign that appealed to voters across the political spectrum.
Democrats and our aligned candidates had an exceptional night down the ballot as well. Across the CD, progressives won in mayor’s races, county boards, city councils and school boards. As Republicans continue to distract voters with culture war topics and wedge issues, the Democratic focus on affordability, democracy and the rule of law is resonating with voters.
Republican Representative Derrick Van Orden should be very concerned with Tuesday’s election results. The 3rd CD Democrats of Wisconsin looks forward to carrying this momentum into the November election. According to 3rd CD Democratic Chair William Garcia, “we have three excellent candidates running for Congress, and after the August Primary, we look forward to coming together to oust Rep. Derrick Van Orden from office, retaking the majority in the US House of Representatives and providing a real check to President Trump’s out-of-control behavior. Today is proof that the Democrats have the people, the message and the resources to win in November.”
Many thanks to the thousands of volunteers, organizers, and canvassers who worked diligently for months to make Judge Chris Taylor’s victory a reality. Our success would not be possible without your hard work and dedication.
