GREEN BAY — State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner (D–Green Bay) issued the following statement recognizing April 9, 2026 as the first-ever Local News Day:
“Local news is one of the most powerful tools we have to keep our communities informed, connected, and accountable. It does more than report the headlines. It tells the stories of our neighbors, shines a light on challenges we need to face, and lifts up the moments that bring us together. While national news often dominates the conversation, it is local reporters who are in our neighborhoods, in our schools, and in our council chambers making sure people know what is happening where they live. They ask the hard questions. They provide context. And they help ensure that government works for the people. In a time when trust can feel harder to come by, local journalism builds it. It gives people the information they need to make decisions, to stay engaged, and to hold leaders accountable. That is the foundation of a healthy democracy. Here in Green Bay, we are fortunate to have strong local outlets across print, television, radio, and digital platforms that show up for our community every single day. Their work matters, and it makes a difference. On this inaugural Local News Day, I want to thank our local journalists for their dedication, their integrity, and their commitment to telling the stories that shape our community.”
Local News Day is a national day of action dedicated to celebrating and strengthening trusted local journalism across the country.
