MILWAUKEE, WI — Today, the Milwaukee Common Council took a historic step in prioritizing community safety and youth empowerment by officially passing a resolution to designate the last week of April as Youth Victory Over Violence Week.

Sponsored by Alderwoman Larresa Taylor, the resolution formalizes the city’s commitment to supporting non-violent conflict resolution and youth-led leadership initiatives. The inaugural week will be observed from April 27 to May 1, 2026, featuring a series of workshops, town hall meetings, and a community peace walk.

“This is a monumental victory for our young people and our city,” said Tracey Dent, CEO of Peace for Change Alliance. “By making this week official, the City of Milwaukee is sending a clear message that peace is not just a dream, but a policy. We are providing our youth with the platform they deserve to lead the narrative on safety and wellness.”

The resolution comes as Dent celebrates 20 years of community activism in Milwaukee. Peace for Change Alliance, alongside partners including Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy Hupy and Abraham S.C., and Milwaukee Public Schools, will lead the week’s events, which aim to provide students with the tools to disrupt violence before it starts.

A formal press conference and kickoff event will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026. Details regarding locations and guest speakers will be released in the coming days.
