Milwaukee, WI—As record floods ravaging Wisconsin communities and families, Democratic Candidate for Governor and award-winning conservationist Brett Hulsey was on Lake Michigan to announce his Better Wisconsin Plan to saving lives, jobs, and money by protecting wetlands, critical habitat, stop Artificial Intelligence Megacenters, and invest in cost-effective energy efficiency and sources like solar to reduce energy bills.

“I am running for governor to make Wisconsin better for my family and yours. We deserve lower energy and grocery bills, clean jobs, less pollution, and for a better future with cleaner energy,” said Hulsey, who founded Better Environmental Solutions LLC, an award-winning energy and environmental small business in 2005. “President Trump’s lapdog, Tom Tiffany works for polluters and political contributors, not you. No other candidate for governor has 50 years of conservation successes to save energy to cut bills, protect  wetlands to reduce flood risk, clean water standards to protect drinking water.”

This contrasts with Pres. Trump’s hand-picked candidate U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany,  who has a conservation voting record of 1%, according to the nonpartisan League of Conservation Voters. Trump’s Lapdog has taken thousands of dollars from big polluters and utilizes that are driving up electric and grocery bills, according to the Heartland Signal .

“My Better Wisconsin Plan will stand up for you, not polluters like Trump’s Lapdog, Tom Tiffany. I no money from polluters and businesses that want to put your family at risk,” said Hulsey. “Hulsey is running a grassroots Proxmire style campaign talking to people all over Wisconsin like he ran in 2014 against Scott Walker where he got 51,300 votes spending only $5077, the best $/vote in modern US history in a statewide election.

Brett’s Better Wisconsin Plan: 1. Bans construction and permitting new AI Megacenters until safety and environmental issues are addressed

2. Restore conservation funding to buy wetlands, parkland, and critical habitat to reduce flooding,

3. Increase safe drinking water investment to get lead and other pollutants out of drinking water pipes,

4, Expand funding for energy efficiency and cost-effective energy sources like solar, expand manure clean up plants at livestock factories, and

5, Fund more energy and environmental clean up jobs by restoring the Youth Conservation Corps and creating an Energy Conservation Corp to give people jobs protecting the Earth.

“My plans puts young and homeless people to work protecting our Earth and cleaning up our parks and communities,” Hulsey said.

Brett’s Experience with Clean Energy Solutions

Brett has hands-on experience helping America’s first net zero houses with energy expert Amory Lovins near Aspen, Colorado. This 4000 square foot home produces 18,000 watts of solar electricity a day since 1984. The added energy efficiency costs paid for themselves in less than a year, making the home both comfortable and beautiful.

“Helping build the Lovins solar home taught me to be a stonemason and carpenter, skills I use every day as a carpenter and general contractor,” said Brett, who renovates older homes to provide shelter for homeless and disabled people.

Brett’s History of Public Service in Conservation and Efficiency

Brett’s energy conservation experience started as an Energy Conservation Advocate under the Volunteer in Service to America Program (VISTA) in the Carter Administration in Alaska during the Energy Crisis in 1978-1979, earning $396 a month.

“Helping Alaska citizens and Natives make their homes more energy efficient showed me how to save money, lives and cut pollution,” said Brett.

“My faith teaches me we must obey the first commandment in Genesis 2:15, ‘The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.’ We will also relight all government buildings with appropriate and controllable lights,” said Brett.

Brett’s a Lifetime Conservation Teacher

“Attacks on teachers and cuts to school investment are coming home to roost with lower school performance. I will invest in our kids, schools, teachers, and support staff,” said Hulsey, a former math and science teacher with a Master’s Degree in Science Education. Brett has taught everything from 6th grade math Earth Science to college energy physics and coached soccer and triathlon teams.

Brett’s Proven Track Record Providing Clean Jobs and Energy

Brett has worked with Master Electrician and IBEW member Dan McGrath to install appropriate and controllable LED lights in dozens of remodeling projects.

“Brett knows what he is doing and walks the talk of clean jobs and energy,” said Dan McGrath of Mainstage Lighting of Madison. “He keeps me busy and wants to put every union electrician in Wisconsin to work with his Clean Jobs, Clean Energy Plan that will relight every government building in the state.”

Commitment to Democratic Values

“I am running as a Democrat because that is the best way to stop the assault on our families. We must unite to stop these vicious attacks on America,” Brett said.

Brett’s Local Government Service and Economic Management

Brett served on the Dane County Board for 14 years chairing the powerful Personnel and Finance Committee during the 2008 depression and four years in the Assembly.

“Even in tough times, we saved vital lifesaving programs to help families, made roads safer, protected and expanded parks, cleaned up our lakes and streams. We held the line on property taxes and laid no workers off. I want to bring this kind of smart management to the State to move us forward,” said Hulsey, who was an Independent Scholar in Economics and Political Science from Middlebury College in Vermont, where he competed in the 1980 Olympic Trials in Cross Country Skiing.

Brett Builds Homes and Creates Good Paying Jobs

Brett works as a carpenter and General Contractor by trade and     runs an award-winning housing, energy, and environmental consulting business, Better Environmental Solutions LLC. He provides food, homes, and jobs for homeless people.

“We need someone who builds things, not just talks. My Homes for Homeless Program houses five former homeless people in my rental and giving them the skills,” said Brett

Personal Background

Brett is a father of two, Tyler, a UWM engineering graduate, and Lea, who is an actress and teacher in New York City, and grandfather of two. “I am running to make Wisconsin better for them and your family,” said Brett.

Roots in Family Farming and Clean Energy Innovation

Brett worked on his family farms growing up and cowboyed in Kansas. In Wisconsin, he has worked with the WI Corn Farmers to build two advanced biofuel plants and the WI Soybean farmers to start the WI Biodiesel Association to build a soybean processing plant for producing diesel vehicle fuel.

“Working on my family’s farms, I understand that protecting farmers and their families protects Wisconsin’s future and landscape,” said Brett. “I worked on federal  Farm Bills to create the Conservation and Wetland Reserve Programs that protect millions of acres of habitat critical for fish, wildlife, reducing flooding, and providing cleaner water. Trump’s Lapdog wants to undo those programs.”

For his work, Brett was one of the first civilians to win the prestigious FEMA Distinguished Service Award by President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore in 2000.

Energy Conservation Advocacy

Brett served as an Energy Conservation Advocate in the Carter Administration, teaching energy and money-saving techniques to Natives in rural Alaska during the 1978-79 Energy Crisis. “I will create an Energy Conservation Corps to create jobs and cut carbon pollution.” Studies show major progress can be made to cut carbon pollution with efficiency and solar.

Brett’s Training and Education

Brett attended UW-Madison and the Certified Public Manager Program, holds a Master’s in Natural Science and Science Education from the University of Oklahoma, had a full scholarship Dartmouth College’s energy graduate school, and has a B.A. as Independent Scholar in Political Economy from Middlebury College in 1982. Brett is four-time Ironman, and an avid boater, angler, and bicyclist. Brett’s website
