Jamie Wall (D-Green Bay) and Representative Ryan Spaude (D-Ashwaubenon) released the following statement today following Senator Tammy Baldwin’s announcement that she effectively pushed the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to approve the transfer of Newcap grants to other qualified organizations. The closure of  Newcap put 134 Wisconsin families at risk of becoming unhoused. These grants will now be transferred to nonprofits that can continue to provide the services that Newcap previously provided.

“After hearing from my constituents in Green Bay who were in danger of becoming homeless because of the collapse of Newcap, I urged HUD to transfer its housing assistance grants to other qualified organizations. I am glad HUD will do so, and many of our neighbors can sleep easier tonight. I appreciate Senator Baldwin’s efforts on this issue,” stated Senator Wall.

“I’m very glad to see the federal government has approved the transfer of money from Newcap to other qualified organizations. This is a small but important breakthrough. I’m hopeful that resources will flow quickly, and local families will continue to receive the support they need,” added Representative Spaude.
