Washington, D.C. – Today, congressional Republicans held their third hearing in a series of pitiful attempts to gaslight the American people on the health care affordability crisis that they orchestrated. During the hearing, Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse made clear that Republicans gutted over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. As a result, nearly 900 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers have shuttered, are at risk of shuttering, or cutting essential services, while millions face impossible decisions to make ends meet.
In response, Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement:
“This wasn’t a serious oversight hearing; it was part of a calculated effort to shift blame. And that’s why I was there, pushing back on their sad, tired lies and disinformation. For the third time in as many weeks, Republicans held another smoke-and-mirrors hearing to shift the blame away from the fallout of their big, ugly bill. But they can’t outrun reality: nursing homes are closing their doors, moms are being thrown into maternity care deserts, and rural hospitals are on the brink of collapse — all because Republicans wanted to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. They’re pointing fingers everywhere but at themselves because they know exactly who is responsible for the crisis rippling across the country, and the American people see right through it.”
