Hayward, WI – April 292026 –  Registration for the 2027 Slumberland American Birkebeiner presented by Rex, North America’s premier cross-country ski marathon will open Friday, May 1 at 8AM-CT. At that time, skiers can sign up for the full American Birkeberiner 50k skate or 53k classic, the Salomon Kortelopet 29k skate/classic and the Northern Lakes Coop Prince Haakon 15k skate/classic races. In addition, registration will also open for the Open Track events, the skier-paced Wednesday experience on the renowned American Birkebeiner (aka “Birkie”) course.

Skiers are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure they are assigned to the wave for which they are qualified. If the wave a skier qualified for is closed, that skier will be placed in the highest wave that is still open. Skiers can also get their name on their bib if they are a member of the American Birkiebeiner Ski Foundation and register between May 1 – 8:00AM-CT and May 7 – 11:59PM-CT

Birkie Week, held each February, brings thousands of skiers to the world-famous Birkie trail as they take on the daunting hills from Cable to the iconic finish on snow-covered Main Street in downtown Hayward. The 2027 schedule for the week of events includes:

  • Wednesday, February 24 – Open Track events
  • Thursday, February 25 – Barkie Birkie, Barnebirkie, Junior Birkie, Giant Ski, Birkie Expo
  • Registration for Thursday events opening later this year
  • Friday, February 26 – Kortelopet 29k skate/classic, Birkie Expo
  • Saturday, February 27 – American Birkebeiner 50k skate, 53k classic
  • Sunday, February 28 – On-Snow Demo Day at Mt. Telemark Village, Cable, WI

Organized by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF), the Slumberland American Birkebeiner has been drawing skiers from across the United States and around the world since its inception in 1973.
