WAUSAU – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today endorsed Yee Leng Xiong, Marathon County Supervisor and D.C. Everest School Board Treasurer, in the Democratic primary for Wisconsin State Treasurer.
“Yee Leng Xiong has spent his career managing public dollars responsibly and delivering for the people he serves,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “He brings real budget experience from the school board, the county board, and the nonprofit world, and he understands that the Treasurer’s job is to be an independent watchdog for Wisconsin taxpayers. He’ll protect our school trust funds, return unclaimed money to families who earned it, and bring accountability to an office that demands it. I’m proud to endorse him.”
Senator Baldwin has represented Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate since 2013 and previously served Wisconsinites in the State Assembly and U.S. House of Representatives. Her endorsement is a major boost for the campaign as she joins a growing list of elected officials and community leaders from across the state supporting Xiong.
“Senator Baldwin has been a steady voice for Wisconsin working families throughout her career, and her support means a great deal to me and to this campaign,” said Xiong. “I’m running for Treasurer because this office matters, and because the people who pay the bills deserve someone in it who treats their money with respect. That’s the standard Senator Baldwin has set in her own work, and it’s the standard I’ll bring to the Treasurer’s office every single day. I’m grateful to have her in our corner, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Born in Wausau to refugee parents who fled persecution, Xiong learned early that freedom comes with responsibility. He has spent his career managing public resources and investing in communities at every level of government. In 2014, he made history as the first Hmong American elected to the D.C. Everest School Board, where he currently serves as Board Treasurer. Since 2016, he has served as Marathon County Supervisor, helping make tough budget decisions that impact local services and infrastructure. As Executive Director of the Hmong American Center, Xiong saved the organization from closure and grew its budget to $1.9 million, expanding services for families across the region.
Xiong would be the first Hmong American elected to statewide office in Wisconsin.
The Democratic primary election for Wisconsin State Treasurer will be held on August 11, 2026, with the general election on November 3, 2026. To learn more about Yee Leng Xiong and his campaign, visit www.yeeforwi.vote.
